Following the repurchase of Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport by the state, its operation and related services will be provided by companies under majority state control in the future.
Yesterday, the National Assembly adopted a law amending certain economic and property management laws, including the amendment of the law on air transport, Világgazdaság reports.
The Ministry of Economic Development also announced in a statement that the negotiations on the repurchase are proceeding in a timely and cooperative manner between the partners. The government’s intention is to ensure the future operation and related services of Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport following its repurchase, through companies under majority state control. They aim to ensure that companies operate on a market basis, are subject to the legal requirements that apply to private market operators, and follow the usual international industry standards, the statement reads.
This objective is also served by the amendments to the law adopted on Tuesday, guaranteeing that companies that will be majority state-owned in the near future will operate efficiently and competitively on a market basis.
In October, the Ministry of Economic Development made changes to the aviation law, preparing the ground for the takeover of the company. Then, in November, the government sold its 15 percent stake in the Hungarian subsidiary of Erste Bank. At the time, Máté Lóga, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development, confirmed the speculation that the government sold its stake in order to buy the airport.
