Angelina Jolie Joined by Another A-List Actor in Budapest

Hungary Today 2023.11.06.

Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem was performed at the Opera House on Thursday evening. As the Director General of the Hungarian State Opera House, Szilveszter Ókovács, wrote, one of their astute photographers noticed that Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie was among the audience.

As Hungary Today reported earlier, Angelina Jolie moved to Budapest for a few months. The American actress will play Maria Callas, an opera legend of Greek origin, in Pablo Larrain’s Maria.

This is the Chilean director’s first time filming in Budapest, unlike Jolie, who shot her film In the Land of Blood and Honey here in 2010.

Moreover, in January of the same year, she also spent some time in the Hungarian capital with her ex-husband Brad Pitt, where they filmed scenes for the American actor’s film, World War Z.

With an increasing number of films being shot in Hungary, including in Budapest, it is no surprise to see a world star among us. Many of the celebrities have fallen in love with the Hungarian capital, enjoying the fact that the fans here are not aggressive and not so pushy, therefore they can blend in unnoticed in the hustle and bustle of Budapest, even without a bodyguard, and discover the beauty of the city.

This is not the first time that British actor Mark Strong has filmed in our country and he is always happy to return to the Hungarian capital.

He is one of those popular film stars who, wherever he is filming, sets out to explore the city alone, without any protection, reports Metropol. Thus, you could say that Mark Strong already knows Budapest, and he knows a few Hungarian words too. In 2010, the spy story Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was filmed here, in which he had to memorize a few sentences in Hungarian, with his partner actor Zoltán Mucsi giving him advice on how to pronounce them correctly, and Péter Kálloy-Molnár had the honor of shooting the British actor in the back in one of the scenes. Also, actor Imre Csuja and rapper Ganxsta Zolee’s mother appeared in the aforementioned scene. The actor has another Hungarian connection, having worked with István Szabó, who played István Sors in Sunshine.

Fast forward to the present day, Strong is currently in Budapest for the filming of the prequel series of Dune. He will play the Emperor Javicco Corrino in Dune: The Sisterhood. The filming is expected to be completed by the end of the year, or early 2024 at the latest. Work started before the actors arrived.

Yesterday, the world star had dinner at one of the Hungarian stars’ favorite restaurants, Türkiz, where he was of course greeted with respect.
