American Airlines will introduce a daily direct flight between Budapest and Philadelphia starting in May 2026, the Minister for National Economy announced Thursday on his official Facebook page.

In his post, Márton Nagy wrote that over the past few months, they have been working intensively to re-establish a direct air connection between Hungary and the United States. This is not just a new flight, but also new opportunities for Hungary, as travel will become easier, economic ties can strengthen, and tourism may receive new momentum, he noted.

He added that the announcement is an important milestone, but not the final goal.

We have always said that President Donald Trump’s presidency opens up new paths between the two countries. Those who know us understand that we will not settle for just this… we will keep working,”

the minister stated.

Fact

The new route is the first confirmed outcome of intensive efforts by the Hungarian government and tourism authorities to restore and expand direct air connectivity with the United States. The efforts were publicly outlined early 2025 by Zoltán Guller, President of the Hungarian Tourism Agency. At the time, Guller revealed that negotiations were actively underway with multiple U.S. carriers, with the goal of reestablishing flights to key American cities that had been served prior to the pandemic, including Philadelphia, Chicago, and New York.
