Bence Rétvári, Parliamentary Secretary of State of the Interior Ministry, issued a statement linking recent violent incidents to migration, asserting that “public security is in extreme danger due to migration.”

Mr. Rétvári highlighted recent events in Europe as evidence of the escalating threat posed by forced migration. He pointed to the tragic murders of children in Southport, United Kingdom and the terror threat in Vienna, where Taylor Swift’s concerts were canceled due to security concerns, as symptoms of a broader crisis.

The Secretary of State’s statement specifically addressed a disturbing incident in Spain:

in Spain, Algerian immigrants stabbed to death and then beheaded a Spanish man in an open street in downtown Valencia.”

He argued that such violence underscores the dangers associated with migration and criticized pro-immigration policies for compromising public safety. Bence Rétvári claimed that European cities, particularly those with high migrant populations, are increasingly unsafe due to such incidents, which he believes would not occur if migration were curtailed.

In response, the Algerian Embassy of Budapest issued a strong rebuttal. The diplomatic mission criticized the Hungarian politician for his selective and discriminatory reference to the nationality of the alleged perpetrators. They pointed out that the Valencian police identified the suspect in the Valencia murder as a Spanish citizen with a criminal record, not an Algerian migrant as Mr. Rétvári suggested.

The embassy accused the politician of spreading unverified information and demanded correction of these allegations.

In conclusion, the clash between Bence Rétvári’s statements and the Algerian Embassy’s response highlights the ongoing debate over migration and its impact on public safety in Europe. As Hungary continues to oppose illegal migration and strengthen its borders, the broader discussion about migration policies and their effects on security remains a contentious issue.
