The Hungarian women’s air rifle team, consisting of Eszter Dénes, Eszter Mészáros, and Gitta Bajos, won the silver medal at the European 10m Championships in Osijek, Croatia, on Monday.
The Hungarian team finished second with a score of 1885.6. Norway won the event with 1896.9 points, while the bronze medal went to the Romanians with 1884.4 points.
On the same day, Eszter Dénes qualified as third in the final eight of the individual event with 633.1 points. According to the Hungarian Shooting Federation, Dénes started remarkably with 105 points, followed by even better scores of 105.2 and 105.4, and 106.
This was the best result of her career at the international level.
In the end, she finished fifth.
Paris Olympics athletes Eszter Mészáros and Gitta Bajos were both away from the final, the former in 35th place with 626.6 points and the latter in 42nd place with 625.9. Anna Nagybányai-Nagy, competing for ranking points, finished 27th in the 82-strong field with a score of 627.1.
The Championships, running until March 12, was not yet over for the Hungarian delegation on Monday.
The Hungarian men’s rifle trio was shooting in the bronze medal match on Tuesday early afternoon.
The trio, consisting of István Péni, Zalán Pekler, and Soma Hammerl, faced the Ukrainian team of Sviatoslav Hudzji, Serhii Kulish, and Ivan Tkalenko in the third place play-off and won 17-9.
