The international community should create a global water database with precise information on the quality of water supplies available around the world, President János Áder said after attending the Meeting of the Water and Climate Coalition Leaders in Geneva on Tuesday.
Áder told a press conference after the meeting that plans were to finalise the proposal for the creation of the database by 2023.
Without such a global database, it will be impossible to accurately and securely design the infrastructure of an increasingly urbanised world, the president said.
The information in such a database will be invaluable for urban planners, agriculture, industry and infrastructure developers when it comes to safety, Áder said.
All calculations indicate that such a global database would pay for itself, he said, expressing hope that the goal would be met a year from now and the world would have an easier time adapting to the climate and water crises.
The meeting hosted by the World Meteorological Organization was attended by Petteri Taalas, the organisation’s secretary-general, among others.
After the meeting the president visited the CERN research centre and attended a panel discussion with Hungarian scientists.
