Viktor Orbán Most Suitable PM By a Large Margin – Survey Shows

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.07.24.

According to a recent Nézőpont Institute survey conducted between July 15 and 17, national conservative Fidesz-KDNP remains the leading party with 47% support, up 2 percentage points from June’s EP elections.

The Tisza Party (moderate right) has stable support at 29%, while Ferenc Gyurcsány’s Democratic Coalition (left wing) maintains its 8% result. The Our Homeland Movement (nationalist) shows promise, potentially reaching 9% in a parliamentary election, up from 7% in June. The Two-Tailed Dog Party (liberal), with 5% support, stands the best chance among micro-parties to enter parliament, while other small parties have only 2% combined.

In the June European Parliament elections, Fidesz-KDNP led with 45% of the vote, the Tisza Party had nearly 30%, and the DK-MSZP-P coalition secured 8%. The Our Homeland Movement achieved around 7%, while other small parties had over 7%.

In terms of prime ministerial suitability, Viktor Orbán is favored by 49% of Hungarians, significantly ahead of Péter Magyar (Tisza Party), who is supported by 19% and Klára Dobrev (Democratic Coalition), who has 7%.

The survey indicates Mr. Orbán’s popularity exceeds even the governing parties’ support. Péter Magyar’s support is bolstered by at least a third of Tisza Party followers, despite a scandal. Klára Dobrev’s suitability rating aligns with her party’s support, and only 4% of Our Homeland Movement voters view László Toroczkai as the best choice for prime minister.
