Sziget Festival Back in Full Swing after Pandemic

Hungary Today 2023.05.11.

Last year, after the epidemic, the Sziget Fesztivál recovered from a deficit of more than two billion HUF (Euro 5.4 million), revealed head organizer Tamás Kádár at a press conference at the Twentysix Hall in Budapest. He said that it is a miracle that the event even occurred in 2022 with such a loss, but the good news is that this year they are going full steam ahead again, and in addition to the great music on offer, they are also investing in the visual world and a lot of development. According to the organizers, advance ticket sales are already very promising, with several sold-out days expected.

In August 2023, the Sziget Festival will finally be back to its former glory: after the epidemic period last year, the organizers had a much smaller budget, but this year they are once again promising a rich spectacle and a renewal of amenities. The music line-up is also impressive: one of the biggest stars of our time, Oscar, Golden Globe, and multiple Grammy winner Billie Eilish, will be performing for the first time at Sziget in Hungary, but there will also be a host of other international and local stars, as well as up-and-coming international and local artists.

The head organizer and CEO said that preliminary ticket sales are very encouraging, both for season tickets and day tickets.

We are expecting around 100,000 foreign visitors and like last year, we are expecting slightly more Hungarian visitors- we are very popular with young Hungarians,”

he noted.

He added that there is a good chance that Friday (Imagine Dragons), Saturday (David Guetta), and Tuesday (Billie Eilish) will all be sold out days. Virág Csiszár, Booking Manager of Sziget, said that the Hungarian music festival will be the first stop on Billie Eilish’s European tour. Non-headliners, but nevertheless world stars on the main stage will include Sam Fender, Foals, Yungblud, Arlo Parks, and Caroline Polachek, while the main stage will also feature Hungarian acts in the afternoons, with special shows by Halott Pénz, Carson Coma, and Dzsúdló.

The second largest concert venue, the Freedom tent, will host Bonobo, Loyle Carner, Moderat, SG Lewis, among others. In the Party Arena, different party brands will be showcased daily, while the Colosseum, home to underground electronic music, will host Jeff Mills, Sven Väth, and Dixon.
