Veronika Major at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Hungarian shooters delivered impressive results at the European Shooting Championship in Châteauroux, France, earning multiple medals and achieving personal bests on Tuesday.

In the women’s 25m standard pistol, Hungary celebrated a double podium finish: Sára Ráhel Fábián won gold with a score of 567, while Veronika Major secured silver with 564. Khanna Alijeva of Azerbaijan took bronze with 560. Fellow Hungarian Renáta Sike finished ninth, scoring 552.

Hungary also earned medals in the junior categories. In the junior men’s 25m standard pistol event, Ákos Károly Nagy claimed silver with 563, behind Thomas Clement Chinours of France (568). In the junior women’s event, Hungary’s Olívia Ditta Domsits took silver with 557, while Anna Pelmeneva of Russia, competing as a neutral athlete, won the gold with 565.

Notably, aside from the more experienced Major, all three Hungarian medalists achieved personal bests in the event.

Another podium finish came in the men’s 50m running target 30+30 event, where Tamás Tasi earned bronze. The gold went to Hovhannes Margaryan of Armenia, who set a new world record of 591.

Tasi and Sweden’s Jesper Nyberg were tied with a score of 589, hence a shoot-off decided the silver and bronze medals, with Nyberg proving to be the better shooter (20-15).

In the team competition, the Hungarian trio placed fourth with a combined score of 1 728, while Sweden won gold with 1 741. Among individual results, József Sike placed 11th (574), and László Boros came in 17th (565).

In the men’s 50m rifle three-position team event, the Hungarian team of István Péni, Zalán Pekler, and Soma Hammerl finished 11th with a score of 1,317.
