Hungarian beer lovers have cast their votes: the official Nation’s Beer (Ország Söre) for 2025 is a bright, balanced, and character-packed India Pale Ale (IPA), brewed by the acclaimed Horizont Brewing in Budapest, kultura.hu reports. The winning recipe emerged from thousands of public votes, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for quality craft beer and consumer involvement in the brewing process.
The selected IPA was brewed by Horizont Brewing, one of Budapest’s most respected craft breweries, known for its innovative and high-quality beers. The brew combines the clarity and drinkability of a pale ale with the bold, hoppy character that defines the IPA style—just as voters envisioned it.
“You voted on what this year’s beer should be like, and we brewed it. We took Superdelic, New Zealand Cascade, and Columbus hops, added a pinch of Horizont mania, and the end result was a truly fresh, light, fruity IPA,” Horizon Brewing wrote in a Facebook post. “Not overpowering, just right. A refreshing, pleasantly bitter 6% IPA,” they added.
The initiative behind the Nation’s Beer is led by Beerselection, a Budapest-based craft beer shop.
Their annual campaign’s goal is simple: to let beer lovers from across the country shape the recipe of a brand-new beer by voting not only on the style but also on specific flavor profiles.
This year’s beer was officially unveiled on July 3, 2025, in Budapest. From there, it will roll out nationwide in both draft and canned form, appearing in bars and pubs across the country until the next Nation’s Beer is announced in 2026.
As part of the same campaign, voters also selected the Craft Brewery of the Year. The title for 2025 goes to Brew Your Mind, a small-batch brewery from Szekszárd (southern Hungary). Their creative and consistent brewing earned them the top spot in a close race with the renowned Szent András Brewery from Békésszentandrás (southeastern Hungary).
