Due to the risk of severe thunderstorms, the meteorological service HungaroMet issued a second-degree (orange) warning for certain districts in Somogy, Baranya, Tolna, and Fejér counties on Monday afternoon. As the storm moves east, a second-degree warning has been issued for the capital and the surrounding urban area, while the highest third-degree (red) warning is in place for the Great Plain.

Severe thunderstorms are expected in the affected districts in the coming hours, with lightning, strong winds, and hailstorms posing a risk.

A second-degree warning is in effect until midnight on Monday due to the risk of severe thunderstorms in Baranya, Bács-Kiskun, Békés, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Csongrád-Csanád, Fejér, Hajdú-Bihar, Heves, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Nógrád, Pest, Somogy, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, and Tolna counties. A first-degree warning is also in effect in these counties until midnight on Monday due to the risk of cloudbursts.

A first-degree (yellow) warning is in effect for the counties of Győr-Moson-Sopron, Komárom-Esztergom, Vas, Veszprém, and Zala due to the risk of thunderstorms.

According to the forecast,

thunderstorms are expected in several waves in many places until Monday evening, moving further east, while their probability decreases in the northwest.

The thunderstorms may be accompanied by stormy winds of 60-80 kilometers per hour, locally significant amounts of precipitation of up to 15-30 millimeters, and ice of around two centimeters. In some places, severe thunderstorms may develop, with wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour and two to three centimeters of ice, as well as cloudbursts, mainly east of the Danube.

From late evening on Monday, the likelihood of thunderstorms will decrease in the east, then from dawn, thunderstorms are likely to develop again from the southwest.

On Tuesday, thunderstorms are expected again in several waves during the day, with accompanying phenomena similar to those on Monday.

From the afternoon onwards, they will increasingly occur only east of the Danube. In the evening and late evening, thunderstorms may occur only in the northeast.

Dániel Mukics, spokesperson for the National Directorate General for Disaster Management, recommended that everyone pay attention to weather forecasts and take the necessary safety precautions. Before the stormy winds arrive, it is advisable to move any objects that could be blown away to a sheltered place and to disconnect any electrical appliances in rooms that could be flooded.

He asked that in areas under severe thunderstorm warnings, people be especially careful near trees, tree lines, and scaffolding. Additionally, if possible, drivers should avoid parking their vehicles under power lines or trees.

Those on the road are also urged to be cautious. It is dangerous to drive or walk through high water, as flash floods pose a serious danger and can sweep away people and objects. In the event of a storm while driving, it is advisable to stop somewhere. If this is not possible, slowing down is recommended. Those driving near tree lines are asked to exercise caution.

During thunderstorms, avoid lookout towers and power poles. Do not stand under trees or use umbrellas, and if you are caught in a forest during a lightning storm, find a place that is at least four to five meters away from tree trunks. Anyone who sees a person in distress or a broken power line should call the emergency number 112, stressed the spokesperson.
