The first All-Hungarian Camp of the year has begun in Sátoraljaújhely (northern Hungary), at the Rákóczi Camp, where a total of 900 schoolchildren from 150 towns and villages in 15 countries have gathered, the Rákóczi Association reported.
According to their website, the event opened on Sunday evening with participants from the Carpathian Basin, Csángóföld, the United States, Australia, Brazil, Ireland, Canada, Poland, Sweden, and New Zealand who will visit the Hungarian Language Museum and the Rákóczi Castle in Bors (northern Hungary).
In addition to the excursions, the students will also take part in craft workshops and lectures related to the preservation of their mother tongue.
The aim of such camps is to enable young people from the diaspora to meet each other in a Hungarian-speaking environment and gain formative experiences.
At the same time as the event in Sátoraljaújhely, the Rákóczi Association is organizing a native language camp for Hungarian students from Vojvodina in Baja (southern Hungary), while two dozen high school students are participating in a mountain bike camp in Mátra (northern Hungary, mountain region), and 20 high school students are meeting in Balatonkenese (northeastern shore of Lake Balaton) at the DUE media camp.
