The International Airport in Debrecen (eastern Hungary) will suspend flight operations between 11:30 a.m. on June 30, and 4 p.m. on July 3, although flights on June 30 and July 3 will still operate, Airportal.hu reported.
Based on the announcement, “preventive runway maintenance” will be carried out to ensure long-term uninterrupted operations, improve runway conditions, and maintain safe air traffic.
During the runway maintenance, experts will carry out thorough inspections and renovations as necessary. Airport traffic will be suspended during the works.
According to the operator, this date was chosen because the heatwave experienced over the Whitsun weekend suggested that the runway damage that occurred last summer could recur. To prevent this, the planned work has been scheduled to affect as few flights as possible, thus avoiding a week-long ad hoc closure similar to last year.
Maintenance will not affect flights on June 30, 2025, and July 3. On July 1, Smartwings flights from Monastir to Debrecen and Debrecen to Monastir, Freebird flights from Antalya to Debrecen and Debrecen to Antalya, Wizz Air flights from Luton to Debrecen and Debrecen to Luton, and Larnaca to Debrecen and Debrecen to Larnaca will be affected. On July 2, MGA flights from Antalya to Debrecen and Debrecen to Antalya, as well as Lufthansa flights from Munich to Debrecen and Debrecen to Munich will be affected.
The operator added that it had already contacted its partners last week, giving airlines and travel agencies the opportunity to inform passengers about the changes firsthand.
