Hungary Doubles Donations to Aid Flood-Hit Szeklerland Salt Mine Region

MTI-Hungary Today 2025.06.06.

In a video uploaded to his Facebook page, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that on Wednesday, Hungarians raised 166 million HUF (411,000 EUR) to help Szeklerland (Transylvania) and the government pledged to match the amount, which is now being done.

In the same video, PM Orbán signed a government resolution titled: “Government measures to help Szeklerland.”

The more than 160 million forints (400,000 euros) were collected on Wednesday during a day-long fundraising program on public media called “Together We Belong – Together for Szeklerland.”

As Hungary Today reported, the urgent fundraising effort follows a disastrous flooding incident at the famous Praid (Parajd) salt mine in Romania, a vital economic resource in the region. The extent of the flooding has left the mine’s future uncertain, with many local families facing a precarious situation.
