A panel discussion of the EU-US Forum took place today in Budapest featuring topics such as the tariff wars, European-U.S. relations, migration, and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s influence on the American right of center sphere. Jason Miller, former Senior Advisor to President Donald Trump, and board members Joe Grogan and Matt Mowers took part in the debate.
Former Senior advisor to President Trump, Jason Miller, praised the Hungarian government’s role in protecting the country from migration saying, “when you look here at Prime Minister Orbán, he is doing a fantastic job and I think it is a real story. Some of us Americans were talking last night about how safe we feel here in Budapest, and how there is a sense that this is a place where you do not have to watch your back, you are not worried about having your pocket picked every five minutes like in some other countries in the EU.”
He continued by saying that “the Prime Minister has done a great job when it comes to sovereignty issues, he has kept the country safe. Back home in the U.S. the media always refers to the (Hungarian) Prime Minister as a ‘strongman’, someone who is very much like President Trump.”
But what is it that he has done so horrible to deserve such a criticism, asked Miller. He stopped unchecked mass migration, Islamism and unvetted illegals coming into the country.”
“For citizens of a country, it is a good thing though that someone should stop unchecked Islamism and mass migration, phenomena that you have seen really change a lot of other countries… Good for Prime Minister Orbán for putting his foot down, for defending the sovereignty of Hungary, for protecting the people of Hungary. It is very impressive what the Prime Minister has done, and he really should be looked at as a model for how you can keep your country safe,” pointed out the former presidential advisor.
In Joe Grogan’s view, it is often underestimated how much Viktor Orbán’s leadership and his message gets appreciated among conservatives and in the Trump White House. This was the case during Donald Trump’s first term as President, just as during last year’s campaign. Whether it is family policy that is being referred to, or Hungary’s immigration policy, and the way he operates or speaks his mind. It is very interesting to see a small country with a leader who has shown such courage that it is noticed among a lot of different people, pointed out Grogan. This is difficult to quantify, but Hungary gets mentioned disproportionately more during conversations in Washington D.C., maybe more pound per pound than any other country in the world, he said.
In his reaction, Miller explained that these policies championed by the Hungarian government matter not just for Hungary, but also for the United States. Anyone who is not paying close attention to Hungary does not realize the importance of what is happening in the country. He pointed out that former President Joe Biden has let migrants numbering “two Hungaries” (Hungary’s population 9.5 million) into the United States during his four-year term.
If you think that the Prime Minister’s opponents will not do the same thing then you have another thing coming,”
warned Miller. Sovereignty is important, we have to defend it. All nations of the EU should be looking to defend their borders to make sure that they are able to keep their people safe. It is the first rule of government, the political anyalyst pointed out.
Another EU-US Forum panelist, Matt Mowers, thought that this proposition sounds like such common sense, but if one goes back eight years, all this seemed incredibly controversial. He recalled that when he was at the State Department they had the opportunity to meet with two Hungarian officials, who had been questioned by left-wing State Department officials. They just wanted to browbeat them on everything. They said that their policies were xenophobic, that they were racist… They used the same exact words they would use to describe Donald Trump in 2016. This was nothing more than their way of trying to fear-monger and to elicit emotions out of people in order to be able to continue with unchecked migration.
In their Mission Statement, the EU-US Forum states that “thanks to the European Union, the same places that were once cradles of Western Civilization are about to put it in its grave. The EU-US Forum exposes the threat of the extreme liberal agenda being peddled by the European Union and is working to reverse its harmful policies.
Through its rigorous research and public awareness campaigns, the EU-US Forum is committed to putting a stop to the radical policies coming out of the EU and ensuring it becomes a home to the common sense policies that have helped Western Civilization thrive for hundreds of years. The future of America and the world depends on the success of this effort.”
