Hortobágy National Park Open to Visitors Again

Thanks to the easing of restrictions imposed due to the foot-and-mouth disease, Hortobágy’s tourist attractions have been open to visitors again.

The Hortobágy National Park announced that the Hortobágy’s tourist attractions, such as the wild animal park and nature trails, can be visited again. Since May 16, except on Mondays, the Hortobágy Wild Animal Park awaits visitors with the popular Extra Safari program. They added that two interactive exhibitions in the Hortobágy Shepherd Museum has been renewed, and a new feature has been added to the Hortobágy Visitor Center: in the “sealed room” of the Puszta Treasure Trove, you can embark on a realistic VR experience of a historic wagon ride through the Hungarian Puszta – a 15-minute journey through an entire year.

In the framework of the Hungarian National Parks Week, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, nature lovers are invited to all national parks between May 16 and 25 with adventure tours,

the release said.

Turizmus.com reports that the reopening of the park will also include a horse-drawn carriage ride, one of the most popular activities in Hortobágy.

The program will introduce visitors to the natural landscape of exceptional beauty, native domestic animals and the shepherds who keep them.

The offer is available until May 31 at last year’s price.

May 25 (Children’s Day), will be all about children in Máta, with an exciting adventure tour to discover the daily life of the stud farm and the horses. In the Puszta Zoo, a favorite with families, you will learn about Hungarian domestic animals and animal buildings in a farm atmosphere.

The nearly 75,000-hectare area of the Hortobágy National Park is located on the Great Hungarian Plain in eastern Hungary. The so-called Hortobágy Puszta, part of the national park, is a cultural landscape that consists of a vast area of plains and wetlands. The landscape has been listed as a World Heritage Site since 1999. The most famous species of Hortobágy are the Hungarian Grey cattle, Racka sheep, the Mangalica pig and the Nonius horse. The area’s colorful bird life is also unique, with 342 bird species registered so far.
