The Patriots for Europe Group in the European Parliament plans to establish a committee on transparency and accountability and has collected the necessary 180 signatures to submit the initiative to the Conference of Presidents, one of the most important bodies of the European Parliament, Kinga Gál, Fidesz MEP and First Vice-President of the group, announced on Tuesday in Strasbourg.
In a joint press conference with Jordan Bardella (RN), President of the Patriots for Europe Group in the European Parliament, Kinga Gál emphasized that EU institutions have for too long pointed the finger at democratically elected governments, attacking them through a misinterpretation of the rule of law, while ignoring corruption, abuse of power, and undue influence on legislation within their own ranks.
This should be uncovered by a committee of inquiry,”
she demanded. The MEP also called for the lack of transparency in the financing of NGOs to be addressed.
| The EU’s era of impunity may be ending.
Patriots for Europe has secured the signatures to launch a full Inquiry Committee into scandals like #Qatargate, #Pfizergate & foreign lobbying. Will Brussels face the truth—or hide behind closed doors again? pic.twitter.com/Pne2dgSotJ— Patriots for Europe (@PatriotsEP) May 6, 2025
Her political group has received the complete list of NGO contracts from the European Commission. “The numbers are shocking: between 2019 and 2023, the Commission signed a total of 37,000 contracts worth 17 billion euros,” she said. According to Gál, it is important to publish data on NGO funding, and work will be done in the coming days to make it transparent in all countries.
We received the numbers: between 2019 and 2023, the @EU_Commission signed 37.000 contracts with NGOs worth a total of 17 billion euros.

It is particularly worrying that the left-wing factions in the European Parliament are demanding that the EU replace the funds previously paid to NGOs by USAID.
European taxpayers’ money should not go to political activist networks
that weaken the border defenses of Member States, campaign against farmers, and organize actions against democratically elected governments.
Nearly 50 plenary debates, 150 billion EUR in aid to Ukraine, meanwhile hundreds of thousands have died and we are no closer to ending the war. The EU’s strategy has failed. pic.twitter.com/kxUAuqobfA

The MEP also pointed out that the main debate in the EU Parliament—for the 50th time—was about the war in Ukraine, where the destruction and loss of life could not be stopped. She stressed her commitment to peace, as she thinks the war cannot be ended by military means, but only through diplomacy. Gál criticized the EU’s departure from its original peacemaking goals toward preparations for war and support for the arming of Ukraine, even though citizens want peace.
We have debated the situation in Ukraine nearly 50 times and still the terrible loss and destruction in Ukraine could not be stopped.
This war has no solution on the battlefields, the only way forward is through diplomatic means.

We need a new European strategy that finally puts the interests of citizens first.
The European Commission’s clearly stated goal of accelerating Ukraine’s accession is not necessarily in the EU’s best interest—particularly if the process is driven by political motivations, such as the 2030 deadline proposed by the European People’s Party in its Valencia document. In her view, this would have far-reaching economic, political, and security consequences for the daily lives of citizens, agriculture, the labor market, and the future of cohesion policy.
