4th Annual Hungarian Heritage Festival in Washington Celebrates the Diaspora

MTI-Hungary Today 2025.04.29.

Nearly a thousand guests gathered at one of the largest cultural festivals for Hungarians in Washington, D.C., near the U.S. capital on Saturday.

The Hungarian Heritage Festival welcomed Hungarians living in the Washington area as well as the American public, said Zsuzsa Seres, a member of the board of the Kossuth Foundation, which organized the event, and the festival’s program director.

She emphasized that they tried to show authentic Hungarian culture to Americans through folk music and dance, as well as craft workshops for children. This year, the Flaska Banda from Hungary joined local bands and dancers, and Kata Szivós, a Kőrösi Csoma scholarship holder working in Washington this year, participated in putting together the program and performing.

The event featured performances by the Szikra Banda, a band from Washington that plays Moldavian Csángó Hungarian music, and the Tisza Dance Ensemble, a local dance group. Scouts also took part in the festival.

The fourth Hungarian Heritage Festival provided an opportunity for Hungarian organizations to introduce themselves, including Hungarian churches, the Hungarian school, the Hungary Foundation, and the Hungarian American Coalition. In addition, the Hungarian Embassy was also represented.
