“Holy Monday Energy Record: the lowest electricity generation demand ever recorded, thanks to Hungary’s world-class solar power output,” wrote Gábor Czepek, Deputy Minister for Energy and Government Commissioner.
Czepek said that such low system load levels had previously only occurred in the early morning hours up until 2023. The previous record was also set on Easter Monday last year.
“The latest peak (2,386 megawatts) was nearly half a gigawatt lower than the figure back then (2,846 megawatts),”
the politician noted on Tuesday.
He also emphasized that, for the first time ever, from Saturday through Monday,
Hungary had a net electricity export balance on three consecutive days. This means that the country exported more electricity than it imported during each 24-hour period.
“Expanding our green energy production and storage capacities is a key pillar of our energy sovereignty,” Czepek added. He declared that “the patriotic green policy is working.” He concluded by saying that “a key foundation of our energy sovereignty is the expansion of green energy production and storage capacities.”
