Budapest Airport Voted the Best in Eastern Europe

Hungary Today 2025.04.13.

Singapore Changi Airport was named the world’s best airport in this year’s Skytrax list, with last year’s winner Hamad International Airport in Doha second, and Tokyo Haneda Airport third. Budapest managed to again win the Eastern Europe category, and moving up ten places to 67th in the top 100, Airportal.hu reports.

Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport won the “Best Airport in Eastern Europe” category for the 12th time in a row at the 2025 World Airport Awards by the rating company Skytrax, at the Passenger Terminal EXPO exhibition in Madrid on April 9. In this category, Budapest is ahead of Sofia, Tbilisi, Tallinn, Riga, Kutaisi, Belgrade, Bucharest, Batumi and Skopje, in order of ranking. In the world top 100 ranking, the Hungarian capital’s airport is ranked 67th this year, ten places higher than last year.

In a statement issued on Thursday morning, Budapest Airport welcomed the fact that it has been awarded the Skytrax Prize for the twelfth time. They added that the award is based on the World Airport Survey questionnaires, which are completed by passengers of more than a 100 different nationalities over the 8-month survey period. The survey asks respondents to rate their travel experience and airport services, from arrival, through check-in and security screening, to departure at the boarding gates.

This year, we are opening up new horizons in the life of the airport: we are expanding Terminal 2 and starting construction of Terminal 3. Our aim is to continue to provide a high quality airport environment and services for the Hungarian people and visitors to Hungary,”

said Francois Berisot, CEO of Budapest Airport.

The Skytrax Award is not the first important recognition that Budapest Airport has received this year; the airport has also won the Airport Service Quality Award for the best European airport handling 15-25 million passengers, the second time in two years.

Other competitors such as Warsaw and Prague did not make the top 100, while the much more significant Vienna slipped from 13th place to 15th. In the world rankings, behind Singapore, Doha and Tokyo, Seoul Incheon and Tokyo Narita came in fourth and fifth, while Hong Kong came in sixth. In seventh place in the world ranking was Paris Charles de Gaulle, which also won the title of Europe’s best airport. Rome Fiumicino was eighth, Munich ninth and Zurich tenth.

The Skytrax World Airport Awards is a global passenger satisfaction survey covering more than 5,000 airports worldwide. It monitors the quality of airport services and products in various areas, from departure to arrival. In each case, the rating is determined on the basis of anonymous, uniform passenger feedback.
