Further restrictions and measures are coming to control the foot-and-mouth disease, with experts working to stop the virus by all means possible, the Minister of Agriculture has revealed in a video message.
István Nagy announced that
the transfer of cloven-hoofed animals from abroad will be banned in Győr-Moson-Sopron county (northwestern Hungary).
In the current animal health situation, disinfection is of the utmost importance, hence the designated disinfection points will be reinforced and the chemicals needed for sterilization will be provided free of charge to small farms.
In addition, all animal exhibitions, shows, and fairs in the area will be banned, including the International Dog Show in Komárom, northwestern Hungary.
He added that the disease is present in four animal farms that have been closed along with their districts, and the animals slaughtered. The spread of the disease is under constant surveillance, susceptible herds are being checked, and disinfection points are being set up on the M1 motorway and at the border, with the help of uniformed officers.
The minister is asking everyone to respect the strict disease control measures. The virus can only be defeated by a joint effort, and experts are working to ensure that all animals are safe, Nagy stressed.
Although so far, no cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been detected in the Czech Republic, Czech authorities are stepping up preventive measures in view of the proximity of the Slovak outbreak, Czech Agriculture Minister Marek Výborný announced at a press conference in Prague on Monday. The Czech measure affects Slovakia, Hungary, Lower Austria, and Burgenland (Austria) from which countries imports of certain animal products have been banned since midnight on Monday.
