Supporters of mass immigration do not feel responsible for their own fellow citizens, stated Theo Wold, former Deputy Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy under the first Trump administration, at the second day of the “Family Foundations – The Geopolitical, Cultural, and Legal Dimensions of Demographic Changes” international conference organized by the Danube Institute in Budapest on Wednesday.
During a panel discussion on the effects of current immigration and criminal justice policies on family support, Wold warned about the economic crisis facing the Western world, citing the housing crisis that an increasing number of people in the United States is experiencing.
He said that many still view mass immigration as an economic booster and believe that immigrants are “the engines of the economy,” but the mass arrival of migrants also has many drawbacks.

Among these drawbacks, the Wold highlighted the educational and labor market consequences. Regarding education, he pointed out that many schools run by community or parental donations are receiving students who do not speak the local language, meaning that much of the funding for school operations is spent on remedial programs, which include translation services and free meals. In his view, these institutions increasingly prioritize the interests of migrant children, putting local families at a disadvantage.
In terms of the labor market, he emphasized that
many immigrants are willing to work for much lower wages, further deepening the economic difficulties of the country or community, as many locals lose their jobs.
Wold warned that in such situations, the responsibility of the host society must also be examined, as it “betrayed its workers and students” by not properly representing their interests.
He also highlighted that immigrants commit crimes against locals, citing the example of “Muslim gangs committing sexual crimes against British girls” in the UK. He stated, that “the supporters of mass immigration have already forgotten their responsibility toward their own citizens.”
He emphasized that
a person is “not merely an economic tool” that can be moved around according to market capabilities, from their homeland to a completely different environment.
He added that “it is first in the family that one learns that a person is more than just a tool. (…) Large families teach children morality, and raise the citizens of the future. Today’s children are the members of tomorrow’s political community,” he said, adding that immigration weakens this.
He argued that the idea – which he also called “the myth of the European Union” – that a person can immediately integrate anywhere is not true. “Our roots are only in one place. The family is the cradle of the nation, where morality and politics are decided, and therefore it matters where immigrants come from,” emphasized Theo Wold.
