AutoWallis Opens First Rural BYD Showroom

MTI-Hungary Today 2025.04.03.

AutoWallis has opened its second BYD sales outlet in Győr (northwestern Hungary), its first BYD showroom in the countryside, the group announced.

BYD made its debut in the European passenger car market at the Paris Motor Show in 2022, and in October 2023, BYD launched the sale of electric cars in Hungary, with AutoWallis Group opening its first BYD showroom in Budapest. BYD Hungary announced at the end of 2024, that it will expand its presence with additional sales and service points in order to build its nationwide dealer network.

As reported by Hungary Today, the Chinese car manufacturer has signed contracts with two dealerships in Hungary in 2023, the other being Duna Autó.

The plan is to build a network of at least 20 dealerships within two years,

as reported at the time.

The Chinese giant’s automotive business is already present in Hungary with an electric bus company (in Komárom, northwestern Hungary) and plans to inaugurate Europe’s first car factory in Szeged by autumn 2025.

BYD cars will be serviced in Győr by Iniciál Autóház, also part of the AutoWallis Group.

The announcement quotes Péter Antal, Director of the Retail Business Unit of AutoWallis Group, as saying the proportion of plug-in cars sold by dealerships is increasing, and that there are already nearly 700 BYD models on the roads in Hungary.

Western Hungary has a significant potential customer base and demand for electric vehicles in the region is growing year on year, that is why they chose Győr,

he added.

The group told MTI that there are currently no concrete public plans to open new showrooms, but they are continuously considering and exploring domestic and regional expansion opportunities as part of their growth strategy.

Although AutoWallis has no plans to open new showrooms for the time being, BYD Europe’s Managing Director, Michael Shu, announced last December that in addition to Győr, they have plans to establish stores in Pécs, and Szeged (both in southern Hungary) in the near future.
