Defense Forces Strengthen Capabilities with New Equipment

Hungary Today 2025.03.31.

The Hungarian Defense Forces have added more Leopard 2A7HU tanks, Lynx infantry fighting vehicles, and thousands of modern small arms to their arsenal, the Minister of Defense announced on Friday.

Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said that two Leopard 2A7HU tanks have been delivered to the “Klapka György” 1st Armored Brigade in Tata (northwestern Hungary), and thousands of CZ Bren 2 rifles will soon be distributed among the units.

The “Kinizsi Pál” 30th Armored Infantry Brigade (Hódmezővásárhely, southeastern Hungary) has been reinforced by another Lynx KF-41 infantry fighting vehicle. In addition, the Lynx drivers will be able to train on two newly commissioned combat vehicle driving simulators (DTS). The Defense Minister stressed that the government’s aim is to provide the Hungarian Defense Forces with the most modern equipment possible.

“Thanks to the National Defense and Military Development Program, our soldiers can perform their tasks with modern, reliable, and highly combat-effective equipment, strengthening Hungary’s security,” said Szalay-Bobrovniczky.

The minister noted that the Defense Forces will be deploying further modern equipment in the coming months:

New Leopard tanks, Wisent 2 vehicles, Leguan bridge systems, Lynx infantry fighting vehicles, and H225M helicopters will be delivered to Tata, Hódmezővásárhely, and Szolnok.

Szalay-Bobrovniczky stressed that the security environment is constantly changing, therefore it is crucial for Hungary to be able to defend itself. The Defense Minister stressed that the procurement of equipment serves the purpose of ensuring that the Hungarian Defense Forces represent a modern, effective force, ready for any challenge.
