Major School and Sports Investments on the Way to Support Education

MTI-Hungary Today 2025.03.31.

Since 2018, a total of 5,680 school and kindergarten developments worth 1,400 billion forints (3.5 billion euros) have been implemented, said the Parliamentary State Secretary and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Interior.

Bence Rétvári, who is also the KDNP Member of Parliament for the region, stated at the cornerstone-laying ceremony for the expansion of the Reformed school in Vác (town in the Danube Bend), that compared to 2010, the government now spends 2,000 billion forints (five billion euros) more annually on the education of students. He added that

this includes the “very large-scale teacher salary increase, as teachers’ salaries will increase by 93% in four years, i.e. double.” This also includes the gyms and exercise rooms that the government has built in recent years,

said the state secretary.

He explained that in 2013, when the government introduced mandatory daily physical education for students, Hungary had 3,952 gyms and exercise rooms, and today there are 950 more, 4,902 to be exact. When the government launched this program, there was one gym or exercise room for every 250 students, today this number is under 200. The opportunities for everyone to do sports have expanded to a much greater extent.

Miklós Soltész, the State Secretary for Relations with the Church and Ethnic Communities in the Prime Minister’s Office, stated that the current investment will also serve education, with the government providing 1.5 billion forints (3.7 million euros) in support. He added that the investment is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2026.
