In February 2025, Hungarian tourism continues to grow: over one million guests were registered at domestic accommodation establishments, an increase of nearly 14 percent compared to the same period last year, the Ministry for National Economy informed in a statement on Thursday.
Citing the latest statistical data, the Ministry pointed out that tourists spent more than 2.3 million guest nights in Hungary, an increase of almost four percent.
The number of domestic guests rose by 5.4 percent to 485,000, while the number of foreign tourists increased by more than 22 percent to 536,000.
The most dynamic growth was recorded in Budapest and the Lake Balaton region.
According to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office and the National Tourism Data Supply Centre, the capital received 24 percent more tourists than a year earlier. Among the rural tourist areas, Lake Balaton attracted almost 10 percent more visitors than in the second month of 2024. The increase is not only due to a nearly 22 percent rise in foreign interest, but also to a seven percent increase in the number of domestic guests.

The Ministry noted that the increase in guest traffic has also had a positive impact on the revenues of accommodation establishments, with revenues of nearly HUF 60 billion (EUR 149.3 million) nationwide, up nearly 17 percent compared to the previous year.
According to the Ministry, based on the data available so far, there is every chance that 2025 will bring another record year for Hungarian tourism.
Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, which has been under national ownership again since last year, is also making a significant contribution to further boosting tourism and further strengthening Hungary’s attractiveness as a tourist destination. Furthermore, after 2022, it also received an outstanding award this year: it was named the best airport in Europe in its category.
They also mentioned that the Balaton cruise season is starting, with the Balaton Shipping Company (BAHART) welcoming travelers from March 28. More people are expected to choose the shores of the “Hungarian sea” as their place of relaxation, where a rich array of activities and a variety of cruise options await visitors.
