Twenty-four Hungarian artists will present their work at Milan Design Week between April 7 and 13, in a space designed by the URBA architectural studio.
For the fourth time, the Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency is providing creative industry players with an opportunity to appear at one of the most respected professional events, Milan Design Week. A total of 24 Hungarian designers and artists will be able to present themselves under the Budapest Select umbrella brand. Hundreds of thousands of visitors annually get to know the current trends in design and material culture at the Milan event. In addition to the Salone del Mobile (Milan Design Week), the exhibitions and installations taking place in various parts of the city are meeting points for players in the international design industry.
The Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency announced an open competition for the architectural and visual design concept of Budapest Select. They aimed to find creative professionals with extensive experience in exhibition planning, design, and contemporary art.
Seven concepts were submitted to the call from Hungarian architectural firms, of which the professional jury ultimately decided that the concept of URBA, an interior design studio with expertise in the design of residential, public, and diplomatic buildings, was the winner.
Designer Angéla Góg developed the exhibition’s curatorial vision, joined by Barna Erdész, who contributed his expertise in contemporary art and collectible design. Their winning proposal focuses on sustainability, exploring how design connects diverse systems, including those created by artificial intelligence (AI). Reflecting on this, the Budapest Select’s A VVoven View exhibition encompasses traditional craft techniques, digital technologies, the role of AI, and sustainability.
The selection features products that sensitively reflect on the challenges of today, are also thought-provoking and innovative.
The presentation simultaneously provides insight into the unique, experimental, yet tradition-respecting vision of Hungarian designers, as well as into the present of contemporary Central European design.
“The Budapest Select exhibition not only showcases the outstanding achievements of Hungarian creativity and the unique vision of its creators on the international design market, but also provides an opportunity for domestic businesses to build economically successful relationships. Participation in Milan Design Week contributes to the growth of the Hungarian design and creative industry, promoting the global recognition of innovative solutions, while creating new business opportunities towards sustainable development,” emphasized Zsófia Jakab, CEO of the Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency.
For the Hungarian appearance of Milan Design Week, the Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency announced an open competition for ideas not only for the selection of the architectural concept, but also for the selection of the exhibition objects.
The call for designers and artists aimed to spotlight the work of people who combine traditional Hungarian applied arts values with a contemporary approach, and pay special attention to sustainability and innovation at the international art fair.
In addition to the works, visitors can also enjoy cultural and gastronomic events, including guided tours, art performances, wine tastings, and traditional Hungarian handicraft demonstrations.
