New Horizons in US Relations Focus On Economic and Energy Ties

MTI-Hungary Today 2025.03.25.

A new era has begun in the relationship between the United States and Hungary, which will from now on be defined by mutual respect and the pursuit of mutual benefits, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Monday.

After his meeting with the Chargé d’Affaires of the US embassy in Hungary, Robert Palladino, he posted on Facebook that the Hungarian government highly appreciates the commitment of the new US president to peace.

In our previous article we wrote about the US Chargé d’Affaires’ meeting with Levente Magyar, Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He then said that “Mr. Palladino will lead the US Embassy in Budapest in a new spirit in the coming period: it is time for constructive dialogue instead of the ideological battles of recent years.” This statement seems to be coming true, as

the two politicians responsible for foreign affairs agreed that economic ties between the two countries must be strengthened.

“If Donald Trump does not bring peace to Ukraine, then no one will,” Péter Szijjártó wrote.

Hungary supports Donald Trump’s efforts by all its might, and we find it outrageous that Brussels is obstructing the success of these means,”

he added. Mr Szijjártó highlighted that there are huge opportunities in bilateral economic, investment and energy cooperation. The two countries are now working together to develop these sectors.

“We had an excellent discussion with US Chargé d’Affaires Robert Palladino. Finally, mutual respect once again defines our relationship with the US Embassy in Budapest,” Péter Szijjártó concluded. Robert Palladino posted on X that he is also looking forward to working together “to strengthen the U.S.-Hungary relationship and to make both our peoples safer and more prosperous.”
