The President of the Hungarian Football Association said that the national team, which is preparing for its 1,000th match in its history, is on the right track to being successful in the long term. Sándor Csányi, President of the Hungarian Football Federation, spoke about this in an interview with M4 Sport.
Regarding the upcoming game against the Turks, he highlighted that the 1,000th match is a huge milestone in the life of any national team. However the 1,001st will be coming up this weekend, so the team cannot relax just yet. This will decide whether they will remain in Division A of the Nations League, which is of great importance in the draw for the next European Championship qualifying series.
He added that there will be no celebration at Puskás Arena after the rematch on Sunday. This is expected to take place next year, when the Hungarian Football Federation will celebrate the 125th anniversary of its establishment.

Sándor Csányi stated that without the government’s investment, Hungarian football would not be where it is today: “The entire infrastructure of Hungarian football has been renewed. The stadiums have been renovated and many football fields have been built throughout the country.”
These advancements have made it possible for there to be 300,000 registered players, while there used to be 50,000, said the sports director, whose current five-year mandate expires on April 21. He indicated that he will continue his work if the public puts their trust in him again.
We are still behind compared to the big international championships, but it cannot be denied that the standard of the NB I has risen. The national team is on the right track to being successful in the long term,”
emphasized Sándor Csányi. He said that efforts should be made to have as many Hungarian footballers as possible play in major international championships, because this would be to the advantage of the national team.
The Türkiye-Hungary Nations League qualifier kicks off Thursday afternoon. The rematch of the duel to stay in Division A will be held on Sunday at Puskás Aréna, a football stadium in Budapest.
