In the future, Hungary and the United States will focus on common interests and not on disagreements, stressed Levente Magyar, State Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs and Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, after receiving Robert Palladino, the newly appointed interim Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Budapest.

According to Levente Magyar, the Chargé d’Affaires wants to repair the bilateral connections that deteriorated under the previous Democrat administration in the coming months.

The State Secretary said that the way Robert Palladino will approach Hungarian affairs will be very important. In their meeting with the interim Chargé d’Affaires, the State Secretary for Security Policy and Energy Security Péter Sztáray was also present.

They agreed that the restoration of peace in Ukraine is more important than anything else and that the United States will work with Hungary in the international space to achieve this.

Fact

In a previous article, we wrote that Mr. Palladino’s job is to strengthen the United States-Hungary relationship and advance policies that promote America’s security, sovereignty, and prosperity. During President Trump’s first term, he played a key role in shaping U.S. foreign policy as Chief of Staff to then-Deputy Secretary of State Stephen E. Biegun, Deputy Spokesperson for the Department of State, and Director of Strategic Communications and Acting Spokesperson for the National Security Council at the White House. Aside from his capabilities, he is still only interim Chargé d’Affaires. The identity of who will become former US Ambassador David Pressman’s permanent successor remains unclear.

Levente Magyar posted on Facebook that “Mr. Palladino will lead the US Embassy in Budapest in a new spirit in the coming period: it is time for constructive dialogue instead of the ideological battles of recent years.”
