Polish FM Sikorski Criticized by Péter Szijjártó after Rebuke from US Counterpart

“Once again, the leaders of the Polish government – the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister – have put themselves on record. While they are trampling on the rule of law in Poland – and Brussels is allowing them to do that – they are lecturing us on what is in Europe’s interest,” the Foreign Minister wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday.

“It is a pity that the Polish government is trying to block the peace talks (in Ukraine). It is this attitude in Brussels that is isolating the European Union. The vast majority of the world, led by the United States and including Hungary, wants peace, while the 26 EU Member States, including Poland, voted on continuing the war,” wrote Péter Szijjártó.

The Foreign Minister’s comment is likely a response to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s remark regarding Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s EU veto, stating that Russia uses either traitors to European interests or useful idiots, says 24.hu.

Radoslaw Sikorski earlier sent his poisoned arrows towards the Orbán government, saying that “Hungary wants to hold a referendum on Ukraine’s future membership in the European Union. I would be curious to know the result of the Orbán referendum on Hungary’s EU membership.”

The Polish Foreign Minister seems to be having a fairly bad weekend after he was also scolded by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. After Sikorski responded to Elon Musk’s post about Starlink in Ukraine, Rubio replied by saying that “no one has made any threats about cutting Ukraine off from Starlink.” Poland is paying a yearly fee of USD 50 million for Elon Musk’s internet provider Starlink to help Ukrainian soldiers’ communication.
