Viktor Orbán: “Hungary will become a family tax haven”

MTI-Hungary Today 2025.02.28.

Viktor Orbán started the morning on Friday on Kossuth Radio, talking about the latest political developments. The Prime Minister spoke about economic measures, the government’s drug policy, and the future of Pride, among other topics.

Mr. Orbán, who recently announced a series of economic measures, said that the common feature of the various measures was peace. “They can only be achieved in a time of peace. These world-changing measures could not be thought of during the war. In the three years we have had, we could not think of a breakthrough,” he emphasized.

The Prime Minister added that it is indeed possible to organize economic policy on the basis of the politics of peace, and that these are ambitious decisions that fundamentally help families. “Because the most important thing in the world is the family,” the Prime Minister stressed, adding that all measures are based on this.

Helping families to stay together, so that those who have children are no worse off than those who do not. The family logic is the other principle around which we can organize the measures we are running,”

he explained.

Viktor Orbán stressed that one of the considerations of the Hungarian tax system is that if there is work, there is everything; if there is not, there is suffering, misery, and hardship. “We help people to have jobs. That is why we were laughed at at first. Work must be respected, we must realize that it is the only foundation on which the future of a community can be built,” he said, adding that “everyone should have a job and children.” He pointed out that the only principle in the past was that those who were poorer should be helped, but another principle was also needed. “Have children or no children. This must be reflected in the tax system,” Orbán emphasized.

The Prime Minister called the personal income tax exemption for mothers with two and three children a big action plan. He said that

Hungary will become a family tax haven, and young people will be able to choose a family career.

He pointed out that there will be millions of people who will enter the life of work and will not have to pay income tax for the rest of their lives, and there is no other country in the world like this.

The Prime Minister also mentioned the possible reintroduction of mandatory price freezes. “Farmers who keep animals sell their milk for 200 forints (0.49 euros) and the price in the stores is 550 forints (1.37 euros). What needs to be done, where can I help the producer, the processor, these are the things that need to be looked at. The war is over, now there is peace, why have they raised the price so much? These are the questions that need to be answered,” he stressed.

He also mentioned that there was another age group that needed to be addressed, as pensioners were being hit hard by the price increase. “Although the law is to increase pensions in line with inflation, we need to intervene here. That is why we need the VAT rebate on food. This is being worked out by the Minister for National Economy, and will be available in the second half of the year, with a refund of 10,000 to 15,000 forints (25-37.50 euros) a month,” said Orbán.

The Prime Minister also talked about the commissioner appointed to investigate the USAID scandal, András László, stressing that he has to continue the work of Donald Trump and Elon Musk with swift and urgent action. They exposed the big left-wing international network, shining a light into the dark corner, Mr. Orbán emphasized, adding that these networks gave money to people and organizations to convey certain opinions to the people, and bought journalists and media to “write what the donors think about the world.”

The government commissioner is gathering all the information, we will create the necessary legal background. The legal conditions for sovereignty will be created and then enforced,”

Orbán stressed.

On the issue of drug trafficking, the Prime Minister said that drug traffickers must be dealt with directly. “This requires even the constitution to state that drug use must be criminalized in Hungary, the police must be strengthened, action teams must be set up, and a series of large-scale operations must be launched to cleanse the country of this new designer drug,” he said. He added that drugs are present down in the countryside as well, in the world of the most vulnerable people.

Speaking about child protection, Mr. Orbán emphasized that it must be carried through to other areas of education. He added that there will be no more Pride in Hungary.

“We should not have had it before, but we had ambassadors like this,” he said, referring to former US Ambassador David Pressman. The Prime Minister added that in his view, ideologies like this “go against the development of our children.” “There are about sixty different categories of neither male nor female, propagating the idea that we should not look at the world as male or female. This is unacceptable. Parents must be given the right to defend themselves. The world is such where we are born, some are men and some are women,” the Prime Minister reiterated.
