The Hungary Helps program and the Reformed Church of Hungary will donate five million forints (12,500 euros) each to help the victims of the terrorist attack on Christians in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade responsible for programs to help persecuted Christians told M1 news channel on Thursday.
Tristan Azbej remarked on the armed conflict in eastern Congo that gives space to Islamist terrorist organizations that persecute Christians. The latest attack, the worst in a year and a half, was carried out by the ADF, an organization that has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.
Relief for persecuted Christians in the DRC:@HungaryHelps & the Reformed Church are providing $15K each to support the families of 70 Christians beheaded by terrorists in Maiba, Congo. Why is this atrocity being ignored? It’s time to recognize #ChristianPersecution

He recalled that the attack began on February 14, in the town of Maiba with the abduction of 20 people, followed by 50 more the next day. Their whereabouts were unknown for days before their remains were found last week. Seventy people were beheaded in a Protestant church and the victims included not only men but also a large number of children, women, and the elderly.
He added that the ADF had previously attacked churches and Christian villages. Since the suppression of the Islamic State in the Middle East, the scene of bloody persecution of Christians has shifted to Africa, with at least 4,500 Christians killed on the continent last year.
The State Secretary noted that
Hungary was the first country to launch a government-level program to help persecuted Christians.
“After this tragic attack, we still have a duty to express our solidarity,” he stressed.
Hungary stands with the persecuted. In the wake of the brutal attack on Congolese Christians, #HungaryHelps and the Reformed Church in Hungary are sending aid to support the victims. No one should suffer for their faith. #HungaryHelps #Solidarity https://t.co/YBs22Ve5Ri

He said that
a humanitarian association for Christians in the country affected by the armed conflict will help channel the donations to help orphans and families without access to food.
Azbej mentioned that in Congo not only are persecuted Christians supported, but also the Christian social mission. A Hungarian doctor, Richárd Hardi, who has been living there for 25 years, is helping, and support has also been given to the Foundation for Africa’s vocational training center in Kinshasa.
He also pointed out that the persecution of Christians and armed conflicts in Congo, a country of almost 100 million people, are not only important from a humanitarian point of view, but are also a major source of migration to Europe. “Migration could increase in the future, and it is therefore in Hungary’s and Europe’s interest to strengthen stability, ease conflicts, and enable the Congolese people to build their future in their own country. Hungary Helps is not only about solidarity, but also about bringing help on the ground to prevent migration,” emphasized the State Secretary.
