Regio Toy Store Records Significant Increase in Sales

Hungary Today 2025.02.26.

The Regio toy store chain’s net sales exceeded 23.7 billion forints (59 million euros) last year, a 10 percent increase compared to the previous year, the company revealed on Tuesday. The Hungarian toy market generated a turnover of around 120 billion forints (300 million euros) in 2024, the company said, maintaining its market leadership.

The company sold a total of 8.15 million toys last year, most of them board games, Lego sets, and cars and other vehicles, but creative and development toys and plush toys were also popular, Világgazdaság reported, citing the company’s release.

The average value of online orders exceeded 13,000 forints (32 euros), while in-store purchases rose to 10,000 forints (25 euros), bringing the average value of purchases up by around five percent year-on-year.

Last year, the Christmas period was also the most intense period of the year, with 32% of annual sales in the six weeks before Christmas. The surge in online shopping started around Black Friday and lasted until Christmas, while increased demand in supermarkets was felt quite early, in early November. The highest daily sales were recorded in stores on December 21, and online on December 11, they said.

Regio Játék Kft. also expects moderate growth in the domestic toy market in 2025, driven by the growing demand for toys among young adults.

This age group is mainly interested in board games, AI-based games, and “Kidult” games (primarily for adults in the classic sense), and manufacturers are continuously expanding their offerings in these categories.

Regio was founded in 1990, as a family business by József Gyaraki, the company’s managing director. The toy distribution company is fully Hungarian-owned, has 42 toy stores nationwide and employs over 500 people. The company is paying particular attention to automating logistics processes and expanding capacity, while also planning to modernize several of its stores, and has already started renovating its store in Eger, reads the statement.
