Newest Helicopter of the Defense Forces Put to Test for the First Time

Hungary Today 2025.02.22.

In the second half of February, the rotary-wing aircraft of the Szolnok helicopter brigade will hold a capability maintenance shooting exercise at the Kőrös Hill training and firing range in Bakony (western Hungary), where they will carry out live firing for the first time with the newly installed H225M helicopter of the Hungarian Defense Forces, the Minister of Defense announced, reports Honvédelem.hu.

Kristóf Szalay-Brobrovniczky pointed out that the first live firing of the H225M type is a milestone in increasing the operational capability of the Hungarian helicopter force, and further expands the capability to support ground forces and special operations.

“This is important not only for the Hungarian Air Force, but also for the application of NATO procedures,”

he emphasized.

The Kiss József 86th Helicopter Brigade organizes capability maintenance firing exercises several times each year, which is key to practicing helicopter combat procedures and ensuring the readiness of the personnel, the effective use of weapon systems, and the rapid, precise response in combat situations.

The aim is to improve the knowledge of aircrew, with particular emphasis on air-to-ground communications and procedures for direct air support.

The current training session, which runs from February 17 to 28, will involve H145M light, multi-purpose and Mi-24 attack helicopters, in addition to the H225M type.

The H225M helicopter crew, equipped with the HForce weapon package developed for the Hungarian Air Force, will carry out air-to-ground live-fire with a 20 mm machine gun and MAG58 machine gun during the day and night-time target detection and marking supported by a night vision goggle.
