BYD’s popularity has soared in the used car market since 2023, while MG is the absolute favorite among Chinese car brands, according to a summary by Használtautó.hu.
Experts have looked at how the competition between Chinese car brands developed between 2023 and 2024. There were no changes in the rankings for conventional powertrains, but if we look only at electric models, BYD has confidently taken the lead. The most popular brand in 2023 and 2024 was MG, with the MG ZS model attracting the most interest at an average price of around HUF 7.5 million (EUR 18,600) and the silver medalist MG EHS at HUF 8.9 million (EUR 22,100 / EUR 1 = HUF 402).
MG is maintaining its position and remains the most popular Chinese car brand in Hungary, mainly thanks to its wide range of models and its internal combustion engine vehicles,”
the portal quotes Márk Koralewsky, head of the business unit of Használtautó.hu.

However, BYD is the big winner of the period under review: interest in the brand more than quadrupled from 2023 to 2024 (from 900 to 4,000), overtaking all rival Chinese brands in electric car sales.
Three models also made the top 10: ATTO 3 took third place, SEAL fourth, and DOLPHIN 8th.

“Even though MG entered the Hungarian market earlier, BYD’s electric cars quickly made it into the public consciousness. Of the four brands surveyed (Dongfeng, MG, OMODA, and BYD), BYD was clearly the biggest winner in the electric car market, with a fourfold increase in interest in the brand compared to 2023,” explained Márk Koralewsky.
At the other extreme is Dongfeng, which was still in second place in 2023, in terms of the number of interested buyers, but was overtaken by BYD and OMODA in 2024.
Only one model, the seven-seater U-TOUR, was among the most popular, with an average price of HUF 13.7 million. Average prices have fallen for all the other brands except Dongfeng.
