A machine design laboratory was inaugurated at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen (eastern Hungary) on Tuesday. The laboratory, which is a milestone in the cooperation between industry and education, was built by Krones Hungary Kft., a Debrecen-based company operating in the field of customized machine manufacturing for the liquid food industry, with an investment of around HUF 20 million (EUR 50,000).
According to a company statement, the lab took two months to complete after several months of planning. The aim of the laboratory is to create a modern, interactive learning environment for engineering students to learn about the latest technologies and industrial requirements. Twenty students at a time can design food machinery components, which they can visualize in 3D using a smartboard.
The facility’s equipment, including ergonomic workstations, computer-aided design stations, specialized measuring tools, and a smartboard, will contribute to the students’ professional development and deepen their practical knowledge.
Students have the opportunity to take an optional Krones course, and the new laboratory gives them the chance to learn about real industrial processes through the latest technologies, while Krones Hungary is actively involved in training future engineers, the statement said. At the same time, the lab will also provide a venue for joint research and development projects between the university and the company.
Production at Krones’ Debrecen plant, the first European unit outside Germany, started in 2019. The site, which was built as the first investment in the southern industrial park as part of a greenfield project worth around HUF 15 billion (EUR 37 million), uses the latest technology to produce customized machines and systems, primarily for the company’s European partners. Krones Hungary Kft. currently employs 800 people in Debrecen.
