The teachers and confectioner students of the Dobos C. József Vocational School of the Budapest Center of Economic Vocational Training have set a Guinness record by creating a 112-meter cake, reports Turizmus.com. The attempt took place in honor of the 100th anniversary of the death of confectioner József C. Dobos.
The pieces of the cake were made in several parts of the country, and were delivered to the vocational school on the day of the event, where they started assembling it from 10:00 a.m. The cake was originally designed to measure 100 meters, but eventually ended up measuring 112 meters. At 12:00 noon, the last piece was put in place and the Guinness World Record was officially broken.
Last time, the record-breaking cake, with 3,600 slices, was made at Auchan Hungary’s confectionery factory in 2021.
To break the record, a total of 4,500 slices of cake were baked by 20 confectioners and 150 students.
He created the cake in 1884, and presented it to the public for the first time in 1885, at the first Budapest National General Exhibition. Queen Elizabeth and Franz Joseph I were among the first to taste the delicacy. The cake gained international fame, as the confectioner travelled all over Europe to introduce his work to the public.

Confectioners tried unsuccessfully to decipher the secret of the cake’s composition, as he kept the recipe in a safe place, which he finally gave to the confectioners’ guild of Budapest on his retirement in 1906.
A documentary film is being made in memory of the confectioner, which will include this exciting record breaking attempt.
The record-breaking cake was made using 3,500 eggs, 50 kg of flour, 60 kg of sugar, 62.5 kg of butter, 7.5 kg of cocoa butter, 62.5 kg of dark chocolate, and 7.5 kg of cocoa powder.
Part of the cost of the cake ingredients was covered by donations. The Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BKIK) sponsored the attempt with 10 meters of cake, which was donated to the Bokréta Children’s Home and Primary School at the end of the event.
“It is hard to imagine a greater inspiration than a student in your profession to take part in a Guinness World Record attempt. We are glad that schools are finding creative ways to keep their students’ enthusiasm for vocational learning alive,” said Viktoria Bódi, Acting Secretary General of the BKIK, summing up the importance of the initiative.
A few days ago, the Bridge of National Unity was also awarded a Guinness World Record certificate in Sátoraljaújhely. At 723 meters, it has become the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world.
