Carnival Season Kicks Off with Fun Racing Events

Hungary Today 2025.02.04.

Carnival running events will be held across the country over the next few weeks. Parties and plenty of fun will be guaranteed everywhere: the series of carnival races starts on February 1 and runs until the end of the month, Holmozogj.hu reports.

On February 9, Kaposvár (southwestern Hungary) will host perhaps the country’s best-known and biggest carnival running event, the KOMETA Running Carnival. The 10-kilometer and half-marathon races will be joined by family and children’s running competitions, as well as urban walks, offering suitable challenges for young and old alike.

And of course, there will no shortage of costumes.

On February 15, the Mozaik Med Costume Run will take place in Nyíregyháza (eastern Hungary), where you can say goodbye to winter by completing a five-kilometer forest run.

Also on February 15, the Underground Run will take place in Budapest in and around the extensive cellar system in Kőbánya (10th district of Budapest).

It was also the venue for the Halloween Run in November last year, with many people dressed up in scary costumes.

On the same day, carnival will also held at Lake Velence, where runners can run or walk between seven and 28 kilometers.

A community run will be held in Nagykőrös (central Hungary) on February 23, towards the end of the carnival season. There will be no timer: everyone can run at their own pace and run as much as they want. At the end, there will be refreshments and of course, a lot of fun for everyone.

For those who have not had enough of the carnival atmosphere, there is also a night run in fancy dress at the Salomon Runity Carnival Run on February 26, where you can run 10 kilometers under the lights of headlamps.
