German car manufacturer BMW is building its new plant in Debrecen (northern Hungary), with production predicted to start this year. Now it was reported by Világgazdaság that the factory will get its power supply from private lines, for which the competent authority has given permission.
The Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) has authorized BMW Manufacturing Hungary Kft. to install a private pipeline under certain conditions. BMW submitted the application to the office in December last year.
A private line is a special electricity line which can be installed by a user directly connected to the public network within the area of its use:
The installation, extension, and termination of private lines, except for such activities within a building, shall be subject to the approval of the Authority. The MEKH found that a private line is established by BMW for the purpose of supplying electricity to customers within the area of use, i.e. for the purpose stated in the second bullet point above. Furthermore, the company will also generate its own electricity: the seventy football pitch solar power plant is scheduled to be completed by autumn this year.
As Hungary Today reported earlier,
the construction of BMW’s Debrecen plant was progressing at full speed, with production of new models starting at the end of this year.
The plant will have a maximum production capacity of 150,000 cars a year. In November, it was announced that BMW will also install a battery assembly plant at its Debrecen plant, at a total cost of HUF 800 billion (EUR 1.9 billion).
Pre-series production was already underway at the end of last year, and the first vehicles of the all-electric Neue Klasse X model have been assembled.
