The Hungarian subsidiary of the Czech Smartwings Group will add new routes to its Hungarian offerings in the 2025 summer timetable, with two new destinations planned from Budapest and Debrecen, Airportal.hu spotted the Aeroroutes timetable analysis website.

Smartwings Hungary will operate flights from Budapest to Almería and Bodrum, and from Debrecen to Barcelona and Tirana.

From the end of May until the beginning of October, Smartwings Hungary will fly once a week between Budapest and Almería in Spain.

In the high season, between 16 June and 22 September, there will be two flights a week on the route on Mondays and Saturdays.

Smartwings is also planning two new routes from Debrecen, with flights to Barcelona (Spain) and Tirana (Albania) once a week between the beginning of June and the end of September. The Spanish city will be served by Boeing 737-800 aircraft on Thursdays and the Albanian capital on Mondays, writes the portal.

Fact

Last year, an incentive program has been developed to attract new airlines to Debrecen. Earlier, Tamás Király, Managing Director of Debrecen Airport, said that over EUR 10 billion of capital will be coming to Debrecen in the near future.

In the second half of 2024, the traffic drastically reduced at the Debrecen Airport due to the fact that Wizz Air relocated its base aircraft in Debrecen to Budapest and removed most its flights from the Debrecen timetable. A few weeks before, however, the airline announced to relaunch two flights connecting the eastern Hungarian city with Cyprus and Bulgaria.
