Hungarian Company to Build Hotel in Redeveloped Bratislava Harbor

Hungary Today 2025.01.21.

The Bratislava harbors will be significantly redeveloped, and now it has been revealed that Hungarian company Alfa is planning to build a hotel in the area as part of a new development project, reported Napunk, the Hungarian version of Slovak news portal Denník N.

The major redevelopment of Bratislava’s cargo ports was announced by the Slovak government in early autumn. The winter harbor near the modern district around Mlynské nivy is to be entrusted to private property developers, while the neighboring Pálenisko area will be developed for shipping with the help of EU funds and Chinese investors.

The project of Hungarian real estate developer Alfagroup International says that the hotel will mainly cater to employees of shipping companies using the Bratislava ports.

The Hungarian company will thus be able to benefit from the government’s new plans to increase freight traffic on the Danube. The hotel will also benefit from its location next to a new residential area, which will be built on the site of the winter port in five years at the earliest.

The building will cost €36 million, with 14 above-ground and two underground levels.

It will offer a total of 260 double rooms and 23 quadruple rooms, accommodating 612 guests. It will also provide almost 200 parking spaces and a fitness and wellness center.

Construction is expected to be completed between 2027 and 2029.

The Hungarian property developer is coordinating the construction of the hotel through its Slovak subsidiary Alfa Property Development. According to the project documentation, the new hotel is part of the company’s wider plans for the Danube. Alfagroup is interested in river freight transport and is preparing related projects in Budapest, Vienna, and the Romanian coastal city of Constanta.

Alfagroup manages mainly commercial real estate, but also residential properties, with a total area of nearly 90,000 square meters. It is mainly active in Hungary, but has already completed two previous projects in Slovakia, the Korzo shopping center in Bratislava near the Ikea store, and the Tulip shopping center in Martin (Turócszentmárton).
