Traffic authority fees will increase by an average of 35 percent from February 1, 2025, Magyar Nemzet reports, citing the Hungarian Official Gazette published on December 30, 2024. The Ministry of Construction and Transport justifies the decision with the fact that prices have remained unchanged for a long time, while inflation and costs have risen significantly.
The basic fee for the periodic technical inspection will jump from 16,290 forints (39.47 euros) to 26,700 forints (64.68 euros), which together with the service costs can reach up to 30,000-40,000 forints (73-97 euros). The fee for authentication up to 1,400 cubic centimeters will increase from 17,000 forints (41.19 euros) to 22,950 forints (55.60 euros).
Anyone wanting a customized license plate will also have to dig deep into their pockets: the individually chosen license plate will increase in price from 112,450 forints (272.43 euros) to 151,810 forints (367.78 euros), and the individually made license plate from 435,000 forints (1053.93 euros) to 587,250 forints (1,422.81 euros).
The fee for vehicle registration certificate will double from HUF 6,000 (EUR 14.54) to HUF 12,000 (EUR 29.08), while the fee for issuing a driving license will rise from HUF 4,000 (EUR 9.69) to HUF 6,900 (EUR 16.72).
Penalties for traffic offences will continue to rise in 2025, having already been significantly increased in August 2024.
