Pannonhalma Archabbey’s Winemaker Named Best Domestic Producer

Hungary Today 2024.12.11.

The prestigious “Wine Producer of the Year” award for 2024 has been awarded to Zsolt Liptai, the head winemaker of Pannonhalma Archabbey Winery. This award, considered the top prize of the Hungarian wine industry, recognizes a winemaker’s exceptional performance over several years, consistent high-quality wines, and success both domestically and internationally.

Liptai’s achievement marks his sixth nomination for the award, and it is a well-deserved recognition of his contribution to Hungarian winemaking, writes Magyar Nemzet. His winery was also named Winery of the Year in 2023, further cementing his reputation in the wine community.

The “Wine Producer of the Year” title is the highest honor for Hungarian winemakers, and Liptai will hold the title indefinitely.

However, the title can only be used with the election year after one year has passed.

The announcement was made during a traditional ceremony at the Gundel Cafe Patisserie Restaurant, where Liptai was honored by the Hungarian Wine Academy. As part of the tradition, the restaurant’s special room will be renamed Liptai Hall for the next year, serving as a tribute to his success.

Zsolt Liptai’s award highlights not only his dedication to quality but also the growing recognition of Hungarian wines on the global stage.

Fact

The Pannonhalma Archabbey’s vineyards boast a winemaking tradition dating back centuries. After reclaiming much of its historical lands in the early 2000s, the Abbey launched its modern winery. Under the expert guidance of Zsolt Liptai, the head winemaker, and his team, the winery combines meticulous selection, advanced technology, and skilled craftsmanship. This dedication has brought increasing success to the Abbey’s wines year after year, with flagship varieties including Rhine Riesling and Pinot Noir.
