Bálint Bajner, a former Hungarian U19 striker, is currently playing for Greek fourth-division team Episkopi, where he has been in stellar form, scoring five goals in seven games. However, his football journey recently took a dramatic turn when he recently underwent a life-saving appendectomy.
According to Magyar Nemzet, the 34-year-old striker began feeling unwell during a league game, but initially dismissed the symptoms. By the following weekend, his condition worsened, leading him to seek medical help in Rethymnon. After being diagnosed with appendicitis, he underwent urgent surgery. Bajner recalled,
the doctor told me that if I waited another day or two before coming in, I might have died.”
He is now recovering in a hospital, where the conditions are “impeccable,” and has been visited by teammates and the club president. He expects to resume training in about two weeks.

Bajner is focused on regaining full fitness, especially since his recent form has attracted interest from higher-level clubs. He shared:
my performance has caught the attention of the Greek national team… I have a concrete offer from the second division, but there are also first-division teams interested in me.”
Despite the exciting prospects, Bajner’s immediate priority is his health and full recovery.
His performance at Episkopi has significantly impacted the team’s prospects, as they lead the league by three points. Bajner’s return to fitness will be crucial for their promotion hopes, but for now, his health remains the top priority.
