Israel’s new Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, has expressed his appreciation for Hungary’s fair position and will soon visit Budapest, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced on Thursday.
Following his first meeting with his new Israeli counterpart in Valletta, the Foreign Minister said in a Facebook post that Gideon Sa’ar expressed his appreciation for Hungary’s fair position.
“As far as Israel is concerned, we regretted that several European leaders have recently made statements that have set back European relations.
Hungary will continue to call for the convening of the EU-Israel Association Council, which will duly underline the strategic nature of the EU-Israel relationship,”
Péter Szijjártó said.
“The Israeli Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude for the fact that Israeli football teams can play their home matches in Hungary. I assured the Foreign Minister that Hungary will continue to guarantee a safe and secure venue for the Israeli national team and Israeli club teams,” he continued.
In Hungary, we do not need to fear scandalous scenes such as those that are unfortunately taking place in Western Europe due to the spread of modern anti-Semitism,”
he added.
Mr. Szijjártó also pointed out that Hungary is committed to supporting the respect of the ceasefire in Lebanon, because this also contributes greatly to protecting the security of Christian communities.
The Israeli Foreign Minister will visit Budapest soon, in mid-January,”
he wrote.
