Csaba Dömötör, Fidesz MEP, strongly criticized the “European Union elite’s actions,” stating that they are disregarding the will of the electorate, leading to serious consequences in economic, immigration, and war policies.
The politician highlighted how the European People’s Party (EPP), led by Manfred Weber, signed a cooperation agreement with the Socialist and Liberal groups, focusing on continued war support for Ukraine while rejecting peace negotiations.
Mr. Dömötör accused the EU of pressuring Hungary, emphasizing that the European Parliament’s recent resolution aims to force Hungary into line with its pro-war stance. He stated that
the dominant forces in the European Parliament are pushing Hungary to give in on the war,”
pointing out that the resolution would require significant financial commitments, including EUR 200B for military aid to Ukraine, and could threaten Hungary’s energy supply and the Paks nuclear plant.
The EPP’s agreement calls for further escalation, especially with South Korea, following reports of North Korean soldiers fighting in Ukraine. Csaba Dömötör criticized the EU for overreaching, suggesting that it should focus on its own economic stability and peace rather than interfering in other countries’ internal affairs.
It is not in line with the strength of the European Union; it should be concerned with how to put its own economy in order and how to ensure peace,” he added.
The Fidesz MEP warns that the EU’s continued escalation in Ukraine and overreach into global politics may have long-lasting and destabilizing effects, particularly for Hungary and the EU’s future cohesion.
