Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, visited Beijing while attending the second China International Supply Chain Exhibition (CISCE). During the event, he highlighted the long-standing and stable relationship between Hungary and China, which has flourished over the 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties.
The Foreign Minister emphasized that Hungary has become a major destination for Chinese investments in Europe, citing the 44% share of China’s European investments that were directed towards Hungary in the past year. He pointed out key projects such as CATL‘s electric battery factory and BYD‘s car manufacturing plant, which will drive Hungary’s economic growth and introduce cutting-edge technologies.
He also discussed Hungary’s economic neutrality strategy, which allows the country to thrive amid global challenges like disrupted supply chains and geopolitical tensions.
“Hungary has always been at the crossroads of East-West confrontation,” he explained, stressing that the country’s strategy relies on a skilled workforce, investment attraction, and global economic integration. “
This strategy will make next year a fantastic year for Hungary’s economy,” he added.
Hungary’s strategic location also plays a key role in its growing importance as a business hub. With a balanced distance from Washington and Beijing, the country serves as the perfect meeting point for German and Chinese investors. Minister Szijjártó noted that Hungary’s neutral stance ensures a stable environment for cooperation between the two regions.
The country’s approach to economic neutrality, bolstered by strong ties with China and significant investments, sets the stage for continued prosperity and stability in the years to come.
