The new “U-pavilion” at St. Barbara Hospital (Szent Borbála Kórház) in Komárom-Esztergom County was inaugurated on November 18, expanding the hospital’s healthcare capacity. This 14,000-square-meter, three-story building is a significant step forward in modernizing local healthcare services.
The pavilion features several medical departments across three floors. These include cardiology, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, pulmonary care, oncology, nephrology, and hematology. The building offers 184 hospital beds, with each room equipped with air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms. The ground floor houses a physiotherapy center, while the first floor accommodates other key departments. Notably, the former Steam Bath unit has been relocated to this new facility, and the departments are connected to the main hospital by a closed bridge.
In addition to this new facility, St. Barbara Hospital has undergone several upgrades in recent years, including the modernization of its perinatal intensive care center and emergency department.
The government has invested approximately HUF 20B (EUR 55M) in these improvements, with a focus on integrated care. The U-pavilion itself was funded by a government allocation of HUF 12B (EUR 33.5M) for construction, while the municipality of Tatabánya contributed HUF 5B (EUR 14M).

St. Barbara Hospital is the largest healthcare provider in Komárom-Esztergom County, treating 30-40,000 patients annually and offering outpatient care to nearly 70,000 people. As Péter Takács, Secretary of State for Health, highlighted, the new pavilion represents
the result of well-thought-out, coordinated planning and development.”
The investment in St. Barbara Hospital’s expansion emphasizes the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring accessible, high-quality services for local communities.
