Trump Favored among Hungarians in Heated U.S. Election Betting

Hungary Today 2024.11.02.

The US presidential election is full of scandals, twists, and turns, and the betting markets are buzzing with excitement – Hungarians, for example, are expecting a win for Republican candidate Donald Trump, according to Vegas.hu, but Kamala Harris is not far behind, Világgazdaság points out.

Trump held his final rally at Madison Square Garden, New York City, on Monday, where he was joined by popular supporters including Elon Musk, Tucker Carlson, musician Kid Rock, and UFC president Dana White. Trump’s family also played a prominent role at the event, with sons Donald Jr. and Eric and daughter-in-law Lara Trump.

The event saw a surge in Trump’s support not only among voters, but also in the betting shops, as media and celebrity appearances gave a final cannon shot to an already dynamic campaign.

Bets on Vegas.hu are predicting a Trump victory, currently with odds of 1.49. In comparison, Democrat candidate Kamala Harris is at odds of 2.45.

According to the company’s Marketing Director, Ágnes Tulik, the outcome of the US presidential election is unpredictable even from the arm’s length of the November 5 date, and this excitement is most evident in the betting shops.

Turnovers and scandals drive the oddsmakers, and people are paying close attention not only to the polls but also to campaign events and the American public mood,

explained Tulik, who said that in recent months they have seen huge swings in the impact of a public event.

The biggest such turning point was the attempted assassination of Trump, which was followed not only by sympathy votes but also by mass betting that the tragedy would be a victory set in stone.

At Vegas.hu, female betters prefer Kamala Harris to win, while a significant number of men are voting for Trump. This fracture is also evident given location:

  • Republicans are gaining in rural areas
  • Budapest and some big cities expect a Democratic win.

With less than a week to go before the presidential election, the big bets are already in:

someone bet HUF 300,000 (EUR 734) on Trump’s victory.

The campaign cycle, rich in excitement and scandal, has attracted far more people than any previous presidential election, which is attributed to the proliferation of online betting shops and the huge spotlight the campaign has received in the international media.

US polls showed that both candidates had roughly equal chances of winning at the beginning of October. Harris would have won 49.3% of the votes, while Donald Trump would have won 46%. However, in the final stretch before the end of the campaign, Trump has built up a significant lead. At international bookmakers, his odds are currently around 1.55, while Harris’ are 2.76.

The US state-by-state betting shops are also dominated by Trump, especially in key states such as Arizona and Nevada, where the Republican Party is more likely to win.
